Easy Way to Recognize Male Menopause Symptoms
Until recently, menopause was thought to be a physical change undergone only by women. Men were thought to be left out of these unpleasant problems, but recent studies have revealed that male menopause is a fact and has specific symptoms as well. When speaking about male menopause the term andropause has been coined in order to distinguish it from the female menopause and thus allowing both men and women to keep their identities intact.
Male menopause usually manifests itself earlier than women menopause and it is usually referred to as middle age crisis for men. At a closer look at men menopause we will see that as it happens during women menopause, men going through andropause also experience a range of symptoms that indicate the changes taking place in their body. Just as in female menopause, during andropause men experience a decrease in their hormone levels.
Thus the natural loss of a part of testosterone makes the man go through unpleasant moments of stress, lethargy, depression, obesity. If so far we have seen that andropause and women menopause seem to be quite alike, you should know that between the two there is however a great difference, since the result of the menopause is the loss of fertility in women, whereas for men, during andropause testosterone levels only decline, but men never lose their fertility.
Although andropause is a period of physical transformation, men hardly go through the same physical torments as women. However, they experience a set of symptoms that cause them a certain discomfort. Among these symptoms there are the hot flashes which are very common especially when the man leads an active life. This symptom of heat all over the body implies also sweating and redness of the face; thus the man fells he's being cooked. The only way to make this unpleasant feeling go away is for the man to cool himself down using bags of ice that he must make sure that they are always at hand.
Another unpleasant and disturbing manifestation is night sweats. These too can be kept under control by using ice bags whenever this is necessary. And since we are speaking of sleep problems, we must mention here that a nap during the day can be a way of preventing lethargy.
Just as in the case of women and their menopause, for men andropause can be a period of sudden mood shifts and depression. Men rarely admit having such problems, but the safest and the easiest way of controlling them is acknowledge having such a problem; the next step would be asking a specialist's advice for overcoming them and keeping away from things like alcohol which could make things worse. In the end it all comes to admitting having a problem and not simply going through a middle age crisis.
